“Rooted in Legacy. Growing for the Future.”

KAMAU AFRIKA

Introduction

Kamau Africa is a lifelong servant of the people—an experienced organizer, educator, and strategic mind who has worked behind the scenes of Birmingham’s political and social progress for decades. He’s helped past leaders win elections, advised on legal drug policy, mentored youth through basketball, and built respect among Birmingham’s small and historic Black-owned businesses.

Now, after surviving a near-fatal health scare and witnessing his city’s growth often leave its legacy behind, Kamau is stepping forward—not to be the flashiest face, but to be the strongest roots.

Why Run for Mayor?

Kamau believes the story of Birmingham is unfinished. Too many neighborhoods have been forgotten. Too many children have no safe place to play. Too many local businesses have been overlooked, and the soil of the city’s future is being planted without honoring those who first nurtured it.

Kamau is running to redirect the city’s growth back toward its people. His campaign is about providing growth for all generations—through food, education, recreation, and legacy.

“I’m not running to make headlines—I’m running to make impact. Birmingham raised me. This is where I grew, where I struggled, where I healed. I want to help others grow too. Let’s plant something together—something real.” – a word from Kamau
